Met Police refuse other force overseeing Jermaine Baker shooting
The Metropolitan Police has refused to allow an independent force to oversee a gross misconduct hearing after a firearms officer “lawfully” killed a gangster during a foiled prison breakout.
The officer, known as W80, shot dead Jermaine Baker, 28, in December 2015 during an operation to stop him trying to free two prisoners being taken to Wood Green crown court in north London.
In 2017 prosecutors said that there was insufficient evidence to bring criminal charges over the shooting. However, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) told the Met that gross misconduct proceedings should be brought against him.
