‘Catastrophic’ IT failure locks MPs out of system

House of Commons authorities downplayed the possibility of a cyberattack, attributing the cause to human error

MPs were prevented from accessing constituency casework and holding online meetings for several hours on Monday after a “catastrophic” IT incident.

The issue also affected peers, leaving many politicians and their staff members across Westminster without their emails or computer accounts.

Despite some Westminster sources speculating that the outage was so significant it may have been a cyberattack, the House of Commons authorities downplayed the possibility of malicious activity. Another insider also insisted that it was due to “human error”.
