President Biden celebrated his 81st birthday at the White House yesterday, but the mood of any party will have been dampened by a poll suggesting that he is more unpopular than ever with voters.

As the oldest person yet to serve as president, Biden has faced incessant questions about his competency for office almost since he was inaugurated in 2021. He has promised to stand for a second term next November, at the end of which he would be 86, but rumours continue to swirl about other Democrats waiting to launch their own campaigns.
