Clubs boycott matches against women’s team with trans player

At least four clubs playing in a women’s football league in Yorkshire have pulled out of matches against a team that fielded a trans woman.

The boycott started after an opposing player suffered a season-ending knee injury while blocking a shot from Francesca Needham in a match last month, it was reported.

On Sunday a different club refused to play Rossington Main because of Needham’s presence. Later that night the 31-year-old told team-mates that she was leaving the side, which competes in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Women and Girls League.

She said that she was doing so in order to protect the club but also to consider legal action.
