Just 2% of Black Friday ‘bargains’ are the real deal, says Which?

Black Friday offers should be “taken with a pinch of salt” because only 1 in 50 deals is a genuine bargain, according to Which?

The consumer group tracked the prices of more than 200 promotions last year at seven major retailers and compared them with six months before and after the event. It found that 98 per cent of the deals were cheaper or the same price at some point in this period, suggesting that shoppers would rarely lose out by avoiding Black Friday.

Of the 208 products examined at Amazon, AO, Argos, Boots, Currys, John Lewis, Richer Sounds and Very, only five were cheaper on the day.
