Doctor Who (Saturday, BBC1, 6.30pm)
On November 23, 1963, the day after the assassination of President John F Kennedy, the BBC broadcast the first episode of a new teatime science fiction drama starring William Hartnell as a mysterious time traveller. Now, 871 episodes and 14 official lead actors later, Doctor Who celebrates its 60th anniversary with three hour-long specials starring a returning David Tennant and Catherine Tate. Episode one, The Star Beast, is the first to be made as part of a new deal between the BBC and Disney, which will bring bigger budgets to a show that was once famous for its cheap effects.
