How can we help?
What are the key differences between the Old and New Classic App?
What are the top five differences?
- Your entire edition now downloads in one go, meaning that you aren’t stuck without your favourite supplement.
- There are now more pictures, videos and graphics, helping us tell stories better.
- All puzzles are now available in your app and can be played offline.
- In the new app, find your TV guide in the Settings menu, under “More from The Times”. You can now find the TV guide in the Settings menu, under “More from The Times”.
- You can now tap to zoom on most articles in the edition.

In more detail, what enhancements have been made?
- There is no need to manually download or delete specific supplements anymore, these are all included in the edition download.
- You can now sign in using your Apple and Google credentials, if you have linked them to your Times account.
- The “Best of” navigation pages have been renamed “Top stories” and are now produced for more sections, including for The Sunday Times.
- From the contents menu, you can now swipe through articles for the whole edition and its sections, front to back.
- We’ve added even more of our best pictures and videos in articles. Every image is included in a carousel that can be viewed by clicking on any picture or video in a story.
- There is now a “double tap” to zoom feature to allow you to easily zoom in on the page. This is supported on almost all pages, but not on puzzles.
What’s changed in the settings menu?
- Editions will be removed from your device according to your “Edition Storage” setting. This defaults to seven days after the app was downloaded but can be altered. The past 30 days of the editions can be downloaded again once removed. There is no need to manually delete supplements to optimise device storage anymore.
- The new app now has easily accessible links in the menu to the Times website, for breaking news, Times Radio, for your daily fix, and the Times+ loyalty site (for UK customers only), as well as the Times e-paper. This is also where you will find the interactive TV guide.
- Enhanced account management means you can now edit passwords, personal details and manage newsletters from the app.
- On Android, saved articles will not be retained when you migrate to the new app. If you want to retain the articles saved in My Articles then you must log in to thetimes.co.uk and search for and save your favourite articles there. We are working to make them visible in the new tablet app but they will not be there immediately.
- Once you start using the new app, saved articles will then sync across platforms and devices for both iOS and Android (post launch), meaning that you can find your saved articles on any device.
What other changes should I know about?
- Your daily edition download now includes all of the day’s sections, supplements and magazines and these are all available even when offline.
- This means that the initial download is larger but you no longer have to download books individually. The content menu now allows you to swipe through the whole edition, from the front page to features, or you can navigate using the section covers in the Edition menu. Front covers and sections are colour coded for easy navigation.
- You will find that some sections and supplements may have been reordered, to align with our Live app and website. Articles are also now ordered in line with the website.
- Duplicate articles may be published if the article is deemed important enough and often these will have additional information published in the later version.
- Letters to the Editor are now published within a single scrolling article in the Comment section. On a Sunday, however, the letters are grouped by theme and published across a number of separate articles.
- You will find the Racecards via a link in the Racing Tips article in the Sport section.
- For Ireland edition readers, Ireland-specific content on Sundays has now been consolidated into a bespoke Ireland section at the front of the edition.
- The seven day TV review guide is no longer in the Saturday Review but can be found in the Sunday Culture supplement instead. “What’s on TV and Radio today” articles are published throughout the week in T2.
What has changed in Puzzles?
- The MindGames section has been renamed Puzzles and now sits before Scotland, at the back of the edition.
- The puzzles have been redesigned for easier use and navigation. You can play puzzles offline or download the day’s puzzles to take with you.
- The new Classic app provides access to previous puzzles by simply accessing that day’s edition and opening the puzzles section. Alternatively, when online find old editions of Crosswords and join the conversation in the Crossword Club. Puzzles can be picked up where you left off when you return.
- All the puzzles and crosswords available are now aligned with puzzles offered on our other products.
What features have been removed?
- The new app no longer downloads editions overnight in the background. We are working on this and will introduce it in a future release.
- The Sunday Times Readers Poll and the Friday Weekly Quiz are no longer supported in the new app.
- The stocks and shares graphics are not supported in the new app, but we are looking at ways to introduce them. The “Need to Know” page is still in your edition, rebranded as “Your three-minute digest”.
- In the Daily Universal Register, “The last word” quote found in “On this day” is no longer supported. The remaining articles Briefing, Nature notes etc also no longer support images. From the archive now sits as a separate article in the Register section
