Jon Rahm has delivered a significant blow to Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods’ primetime indoor golf league (TGL) by pulling out only a day after the format was unveiled.

The Masters champion and world No 3’s departure inevitably fuelled speculation that he could be set to quit the PGA Tour for LIV Golf but he has previously laughed off any rumours about that and said he has “never liked the format”.

Rahm, 28, wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “I am sad to confirm that I will not be participating in the first TGL season. While I still think it’s a great opportunity, right now it would require a level of commitment that I can’t offer. Best of luck to everyone and may the best team
