Jeremy Hunt tells CBI: I can now focus on long-term UK growth
Jeremy Hunt has said that instead of taking a more cautious approach it is time to focus on the “long-term growth of the UK economy” in his autumn statement, after inflation more than halved this year.
Speaking at a conference organised by the CBI, the business lobby group, the chancellor said tomorrow’s statement would include a “whole range of measures designed to unlock business investment”, indicating that he will make the 100 per cent tax relief on capital spending permanent.
He said that he and Rishi Sunak “had to do some very difficult things to get [inflation] back under control” after it climbed to a 41-year high of 11.1 per cent in October last year. However, now that the rate had declined to 4.6 per
