Ink appeal: how the Michelangelo of tattooists earned his stripes
He is known as the “Michelangelo of tattooists” because of his vividly coloured, intricately detailed designs inspired by medieval stained-glass windows.
Mikael de Poissy has become the first tattooist to win the coveted Médaille Vermeille prize from the distinguished Paris Academy of Arts, Science and Literature; an honour normally reserved for artists working in more conventional formats. Recent winners include the painter Michèle Duretête-Brodel, the sculptor Patricia Maze, and Serge Kervarec, an artist who specialises in engravings.
