Hackers demand £602,000 ransom for stolen British Library data
A gang of hackers has claimed responsibility for a ransomware attack that has crippled the British Library for the past few weeks.
The Rhysida group has demanded 20 Bitcoin (£602,456) for the return of the stolen data, which includes employment documents and passport scans.
The attack has brought down the library’s website, online systems and book ordering, with some academics complaining that they cannot order material from the library’s repository in Yorkshire.
The library tweeted: “We anticipate restoring many services in the next few weeks, but some disruption may persist for longer.”
