BEHIND THE STORY

Gunmen such as Thomas Cashman who murdered Olivia Pratt-Korbel have increasingly brazen attitude to violence

Joseph Nee had a target on his back. Two weeks before the fatal night of August 22 last year, the convicted drug dealer had been the intended victim in another shooting.

The gun used in that first attempt on his life was the same self-loading Glock pistol that would be fired a fortnight later when Thomas Cashman chased him through the streets of Dovecot in Liverpool firing first with the Glock and then with a revolver.

Relentless though Cashman was in his pursuit, Nee escaped a second time and instead it was a nine-year-old girl who lost her life, when the balaclava-clad gunman fired two shots after his target who had barged into the home of Cheryl Korbel.
