Graham Lee: Grand National-winning jockey in intensive care after fall

Graham Lee. the only jockey to have won both the Gold Cup at Ascot and the Grand National, is in intensive care with “very serious injuries” after suffering a neck injury in a fall at Newcastle on Friday evening.

Lee, 47, was hurt as his mount, Ben Macdui, dipped down as the stalls opened, sending Lee headfirst to the ground. He was taken straight to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

He won the 2004 Grand National on Amberleigh House but switched to the Flat in 2012 and has enjoyed great success in that sphere too, including victory on Trip To Paris in the 2015 Gold Cup.
