Israel ‘uncovers Hamas weapons under al-Shifa hospital’
Israeli soldiers are continuing to search the Gaza Strip’s largest hospital, after claiming to have unearthed an operational Hamas command centre, weapons, combat gear and technological equipment after entering the complex.
Video released by the Israel Defence Forces showed automatic weapons, grenades and ammunition among the discoveries made on Wednesday, said its chief military spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.
Footage showed an IDF spokesman outside the hospital’s MRI building claiming that a weapons cache had been found inside. “These assets in Shifa Hospital ... prove that hospitals have been used for military purposes for terror, in direct opposition to international law,” Hagari said. The IDF said it might take weeks to fully search the hospital.
