Chef tried to strangle colleague in row over potato croquettes
A row between two chefs over potato croquettes culminated in attempted “strangulation” inside the restaurant of an upmarket Victorian hotel, Reading crown court was told.
Rashim Salim, 35, was handed an 18-month community sentence yesterday after he grabbed his colleague by the throat and punched him three times at the Cantley House Hotel in Wokingham, Berkshire.
The row erupted on January 27 when the chefs began to throw potatoes at each other and then spiralled out of control, with Salim reaching for his colleague’s throat.
Shaan Sethi, for the prosecution, told the court that Salim “grabbed the complainant by the neck and squeezed” before punching his colleague, described only as Mr Barbu, in the torso three times.
