Both sides in Israel-Gaza conflict are waging a disinformation war
The spin and propaganda has become increasingly feverish and divorced from reality — and India is helping spread conspiracy theories
On Friday afternoon, Saleh Aljafarawi, a Gazan blogger and singer, was standing by Al-Shifa Hospital when an Israeli bomb hit an ambulance waiting outside. He filmed a selfie video in which the horrifying aftermath of the strike — pools of blood and twisted bodies of injured and dead people, including a woman — was clearly visible in the background.
Israel quickly admitted to the attack, claiming it had targeted Hamas fighters inside the ambulance. The details in the video were easily verifiable.
Soon, however, pro-Israeli accounts online started posting claims that Aljafarawi was a stooge hired by Hamas to exaggerate the civilian toll of Israel’s bombing campaign, and that the footage he had posted was somehow fake. They claimed he was a “crisis actor”,
