Benjamin Mendy has launched a multimillion-pound lawsuit against his former club Manchester City, claiming unauthorised deductions from his wages between 2021 and 2023.

The 29-year-old defender, who is now at the Ligue One side Lorient, is making the claim to an employment tribunal.

It is alleged that City failed to pay Mendy, a World Cup winner with France in 2018, any wages at all from September 2021, when he was charged with rape and attempted rape, until the end of his contract in June this year. Mendy was cleared of all charges in July.

Mendy is being represented by Nick De Marco KC, and the sum being sought is understood to be about £9 million to £10 million.
