AI assistants to help cut size of civil service

An AI Whitehall “hit squad” will help to reduce the size of the civil service, the deputy prime minister has said.
Oliver Dowden unveiled the Incubator for AI, a specialist unit designed to push the use of artificial intelligence across the civil service.
The team of 20 to 30 people will focus on five projects initially: welfare fraud, the asylum backlog, health and education services and reform of the civil service.
Dowden said: “This is about trying to get a hit squad, crack squad that is going to go out there and actually bring a high level of expertise to try and identify innovative solutions to projects.
“I think my principal driver for this is getting a better outcome for the people that we serve.
