‘We have to win,’ Argentina’s Javier Milei declares ahead of election

Voters in the crisis-hit country have a stark choice between the maverick right-wing libertarian and the economy minister, Sergio Massa, at the polls on Sunday

As thousands of Argentinians rallied before Sunday’s forthcoming presidential election, the maverick libertarian candidate Javier Milei told his supporters that “whatever the cost, we have to win”.

In the final round of presidential elections this weekend, Milei will face off against the sitting economy minister, Sergio Massa. A loss, Milei’s supporters have already hinted, might not be a result they are willing to accept.

The race between Massa and Milei appears close. Argentina bans publication of opinion polls in the eight days before a presidential election, but two published at the end of last week gave Milei a narrow lead.
