The police are working with Exeter Chiefs after Ugo Monye alleged that he had been subjected to racial abuse near Sandy Park on Sunday.

Monye said that he was leaving the stadium where he had been working as a TV pundit, after the Chiefs had beaten Gloucester 25-24, when he was called the n-word by a spectator.

“We take all reports of hate crime extremely seriously and we will not tolerate this behaviour,” Devon and Cornwall police said in a statement. “We are working with the club.”

Exeter said the incident took place outside the grounds of their stadium but was captured on CCTV. The club praised a “huge number” of people who had come forward to give evidence and said the behaviour was “not
