There are one too many “dick” jokes in this scouse version of the pantomime classic. Directed by the veteran panto mastermind Mark Chatterton, The Scouse Dick Whittington is so overflowing with innuendo that it makes you long for something a little more high-brow. This is definitely not one to take the kids to. But excessive crudeness aside, you would have to be a total misery guts not to let out a chuckle.

Traditionalists be warned. This is not your classic Dick Whittington. In fact, there’s barely a sprinkling of the original story in Kevin Fearon’s script. Liverpool has been struck by a rat infestation and all the local cats have been murdered. After the mayor resigns, it falls to our hero, Dick, to
