Hundreds of children in east London left school on Thursday to march on the local Labour Party office in protest against their MP’s decision not to back a ceasefire in Gaza.

Rushanara Ali, the MP for Bethnal Green & Bow and shadow minister for investment and small business, abstained from Wednesday’s SNP motion in parliament that called for “an immediate ceasefire”. At lunchtime on Thursday, hundreds of schoolchildren were filmed walking down Cambridge Heath Road in Bethnal Green. It is not known to which school they belonged or who organised the march.

The local Labour Party office on the road has previously been a target for pro-Palestinian protesters upset with the party’s position on the issue. Many of those marching were holding banners carrying a
