Philip Willan is a freelance journalist who has been based in Rome for many years. He is the author of two books on Italy’s Cold War history, Puppetmasters: The Political Use of Terrorism in Italy and The Vatican at War, on the mysterious death of “God’s banker” Roberto Calvi. He contributed research to David Yallop’s best-selling book In God’s Name and to Charles Raw’s The Money Changers, becoming an expert on the P2 Masonic lodge in the process.
