I’d have to go for Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea. He knew what he was talking about, and so there was a tremendous reality to his writing. I read it many years ago, but it has stayed with me.

I read every thriller of any worth on the market, which is the reason I’ve wound up writing one myself. Some of my favourite thriller writers include Tom Clancy, Lee Child, John Grisham and Michael Connelly. I love being taken on a ride with a fast-paced plot.
