Margaret Thatcher was one of the great leaders of humanity, a candidate to become Argentinian president has said.

The libertarian free-marketeer Javier Milei was asked by his opponent in a TV debate “to state clearly: is Margaret Thatcher your role model?”

Milei, 53, said he regarded Thatcher as one of humanity’s “great leaders” and added that the late prime minister “had a significant role in the fall of the Berlin Wall, which seems to bother you … and that she crushed the left”.

His opponent, Sergio Massa, the economic minister in the current left-wing government, responded that because of the 1982 Falklands war, “Thatcher is an enemy of Argentina yesterday, today and always”.
