A magistrate has been fined £8,000 and ordered to pay £77,000 from the proceeds of crime after he took thousands of pounds in rent by illegally extending two properties.

Ian Kendall, 65, carried on building annexes on the sides of the two homes he owns on the edge of the New Forest despite being refused planning permission, a court was told.

One development included the addition of a bedroom, en-suite bathroom and kitchen and a second front door to create a second address. After subdividing the house into two, Kendall then made thousands of pounds by renting them out for several years.
