Princess of Wales speech: social growth as important as three Rs
The Princess of Wales has said that children’s social and emotional progress is just as important as learning the three Rs, as she called for early childhood development to be made a top priority.
In a keynote speech at a symposium she hosted as part of her Shaping Us campaign, she called for “long-term preventative change” to help the most vulnerable in society.
Early childhood was linked to “some of today’s toughest social challenges”, she said. “For many individuals … trauma, stress, and adverse experiences in their childhood have caused fundamental harm that they have carried for years.”
