Jeremy Hunt has said that instead of taking a more cautious approach it is time to focus on the “long-term growth of the UK economy” in his autumn statement, after inflation more than halved this year.

Speaking at a conference organised by the CBI, the business lobby group, the chancellor said tomorrow’s statement would include a “whole range of measures designed to unlock business investment”, indicating that he will make the 100 per cent tax relief on capital spending permanent.
