Israel latest: babies evacuated from Gaza arrive in Egypt

A first group of premature babies evacuated from Gaza’s besieged al-Shifa hospital have arrived in Egypt for treatment, according to the World Health Organisation.

Thirty-one babies were transferred by ambulance from al-Shifa to the Emirati hospital in Rafah, southern Gaza, 28 of which have now made it from there to Egypt via the Rafah crossing. Three remain in Rafah receiving treatment. Footage on Egyptian television showed medics lifting the babies between ambulances and mobile incubators.

“All babies are fighting serious infections and continue needing health care,’ the World Health Organisation (WHO) said.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PCRS), said its teams had carried out the evacuation in co-ordination with UN agencies including the WHO.
