Designer Stuart Trevor remembers the exact moment his passion for fashion was piqued — aged six, he was watching Top of the Pops. “He came on the screen and I was like, ‘Wow, I want to be David Bowie.’ ”

Rock’n’roll his own life wasn’t at the time. Trevor was born in 1966 in Dundee, the youngest of four children, and he was eight when his father left the family home. His mother struggled to make ends meet and he recalls “living in a housing association terraced house with no money, and it was freezing cold. My trousers were too short and I walked through snow drifts to get to school. Sometimes it was so cold, you’d end up with chilblains, said Trevor.
