BMW G87 M2 Coupe review: A butch Beemer that made me drive like a 19-year-old

It used to be easy to guess what had influenced BMW design. In the 1970s it was sharks; in the 1980s and 1990s the crisp feel of bespoke tailoring. By the 2000s the 5 Series was said to have been inspired by the structure of airships. But it’s tougher to guess what has triggered the latest BMW designs. People have criticised the comically oversized double-Edsel grilles fitted to many current models but the real problems go deeper than that. The Z4 looks as though its wheels are too close together. The iX resembles a stoned guinea pig. It’s hard to know where to begin with the new 5 Series on which the bonnet is at the wrong angle, the back end is saggy and the
