Glue trap ban ‘could leave cities overrun by rats’
A blanket ban on rodent glue traps could leave Edinburgh and Glasgow overrun by a plague of vermin, MSPs have said.
The Wildlife Management and Muirburn Bill, expected to come into force from spring next year, will make traps that use adhesive to ensnare rats and mice illegal in Scotland on animal welfare grounds.
Ian Andrew, the chief executive of the British Pest Control Association (BPCA), said: “A complete ban on rodent glue boards in Scotland would have a devastating impact on human health and safety.
“Everything from hospital wards to school lunchrooms will be liable to close while extended pest management programmes occur … Hospitals, care homes, food factories, schools, and critical infrastructure will all be affected if we fail to protect these tools
