Everton’s ten-point deduction ‘grossly unjust’, says MP
Everton’s fight to reduce a ten-point deduction for a breach of profit and sustainability rules has received political backing amid claims the punishment lacks “legal foundation”.
Ian Byrne, the MP for Liverpool, West Derby, has tabled an early day motion in parliament in which he called the sanction meted out by an independent commission “grossly unjust”.
It comes as the mayor of Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, wrote to the Premier League chief executive Richard Masters describing the outcome of a disciplinary hearing last month as “ludicrous” and claiming that the penalty does not “fit the crime”.
