Donald Trump’s trial in Georgia, where he is accused of conspiring to interfere with the result of the 2020 election, is unlikely to end before next year’s presidential election, the prosecutor leading the case has said.

Trump, 77, is the overwhelming favourite to win the Republican presidential nomination, the race for which begins with the Iowa caucus in January.

His campaign to regain the White House will be punctuated, however, by a number of legal cases, both criminal and civil. In total he has been charged with 91 felonies in state and federal cases and is facing a civil suit in New York.
