Party lines collapse as Republicans and Democrats lure new voters in swing state, polls suggest

Ten miles north of the neon lights and casinos of the Las Vegas Strip at a low-rise local college campus, the next generation of Nevada voters shows why gambling on the outcome of a rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump has become harder than ever.

The western desert state was Biden’s narrowest victory in a state he held in 2020. But a poll showing Trump leading here by 11 points, with ethnic minorities and the young shifting towards the Republicans, means all bets are off for 2024.

“Party lines no longer mean anything to us, especially younger voters,” said Alexander Richard, a 17-year-old political science student at the College of Southern Nevada who will be a first-time voter next year.
