Nick Connors’s business has been a galloping success, which is appropriate given that he started out riding horses.

He grew up in Stradbally, Co Waterford. His father raised horses and passed his passion on to his son. After school he secured a place in the army equitation school in 1981.

It was the glory days of the Olympians Gerry Mullins and John Ledingham, which made for stiff competition for good mounts. Though he won some international classes, ultimately he changed horses for courses and studied engineering in UCD through the army instead.

That gave Connors an early pathway into computers. Though he did a tour of duty in Lebanon, most of his military career was spent at army HQ, computerising records.
