Altos Labs, the “anti-ageing” start-up said to be backed by the Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, is to open a laboratory in Cambridge as it seeks to discover the key to prolonging human life.

The company has signed a ten-year lease to take 51,000 sq ft of laboratory space in the Portway building at Granta Park, a life sciences park that sits just south of Cambridge off the A11.

Granta was bought by Biomed, a division of Blackstone, the private equity firm, for £127 million in 2012. Biomed, which owns about one million sq ft of lab and office space in and around Cambridge, has been renovating the Portway building.

Altos’s neighbours at Granta Park will include Cancer Research, the US biotech Illumina and Pfizer,
